The Department of Home Affairs has updated their Graduate Temporary Entrant (GTE) criteria for writing Statement of Purpose (SOP). The students will now have to restrict their SOP to 300 words. So, it’s important for students to know what they should include and exclude in their SOP.
In the 300-word SOP, students should avoid duplication of information and not mention information that is already provided in the attached appendix. This includes academic qualifications, previous certifications, old certifications, High School achievements, years 10, 11, A levels, diploma and degree, any visa refusal, ongoing internships, ongoing short courses, and English proficiency score. Please don’t mentioned about your hobbies and other areas of interest.

The SOP should start with an introduction where the student talks about the course they have selected to study and how it relates to their previous academic qualifications. The student can pick a few interesting units from the selected course and write about those units that interest them. How different it from the course offered in your home country.
The student should also mention why they have selected Australia over their home country for the course they plan to study. They should talk about their research on salary comparisons in their home country and Australia, the types of organizations offering jobs in their field (name a few companies), and their future career plans.
As part of the appendix to the SOP, students should attach screenshots of the research they have mentioned in their SOP to support their claims. The attachments should be compiled in chronological order as they appear in the SOP. This will highlight the fact that you are supporting the claims with proper evidence and not making up stories
The student should also add unique factors that cannot be copy-pasted from any website or SOP template. For example, if they visited an organization and met someone working in that organization as a project manager and were impressed with their job responsibilities, the challenges they face in their day-to-day job, the salary they are drawing, future prospects, and what courses will lead them to work in a similar position.
It’s important for students to follow the new format and criteria provided by the Department of Home Affairs to increase their chances of getting their visa application approved.
